Cbd Now Allowed For Athletes

Cannabidiol, a derivative of the cannabis plant, has now been taken off the international doping rules list. Despite cannabis being nicknamed “dope” by some, this derivative has now been deemed safe by the World Anti-Doping Agency as a product which is not performance enhancing in any way. This is a big step forward for advocates of medicinal marijuana, to have a true example of how the substance can benefit society is a great asset to the debate on marijuana. From the beginning of next year, athletes will be allowed to use CBD to treat sport related injuries.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol is one of 113 different cannabinoids within a cannabis plant. These many different chemicals have varying effects on the human body and all have various applications in society, from medicinal to clothing. One of the medical benefits of cannabidiol is that it has no intoxicating effects like its counterpart THC, but can help with anxiety problems.

What is it used for?

This means that CBD has been used in many medical products. This includes its use as an anti-anxiety and depression tool as well as potential benefits in digestion and bone strengthening. For athletes however, the effects of CBD oil are useful for anti-inflammatory purposes. This includes helping to heal muscle strains and bone aches and making sure that athletes are in prime condition for their races. This acts as a natural remedy for sports related injuries and therefore does not come with any of the side effects of the more complex medications which may come with far more adverse side effects.

Who are the WADA?

Created in the 1990’s, the World Anti-doping Agency was created to monitor and fight the use of drugs in sports. The way they operate include investigating and raising awareness through research, educating and through the development of laws and regulations which will make professional sportsmanship even in its playing field. Aligned with other large organisations such as UNESCO and the Council of Europe Anti-Doping Convention, WADA have been behind many of the exposes on illegal doping activities in sports as well as educating future generations to play fair.

What the future holds for CBD

With this large step, CBD will become far more renowned and respected as a medicine. It’s connotations with the controversies surrounding links to cannabis and the negative effects of the illegal drug will be shed, CBD being able to stand on its own legs as its own medicine. This can only bring good things for the future of CBD and its various positive applications.
